5 Time-Management Tips for You

If you clicked onto this post, then I would guess that you’re pretty interested in managing your time better in this season. I think it’s something that we all need to do, especially women, because we wear so many hats. We have the responsibilities of being a wife (if you’re married), motherhood, work, taking care of the home, ministry, and caring for those who are in need. Yet, with all of these hats, we’ve got to learn how to rock them well. So let’s dive into my 5 Time- Management Tips especially designed for you.
Tip #1 – Review Your Week on Sunday Before you jump into your work week (whether you work from home or outside the home), try to review your schedule on Sunday (or early Monday). Do you have any upcoming meetings, Zoom chats, phone meetings, project deadlines, clients, or outings scheduled? If so, review them thoroughly and then commit your plans to God before you dive into your new week. Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit your plans to the Lord and your plans will succeed.” This will help you to manage your time well, as you prepare yourself mentally, physically, and spiritually for the tasks and obligations ahead.
Tip #2 – Grocery Shop and Meal Prep You and your family (if you have one) have to eat, sis. And it’s much less stressful if you manage your time wisely in this area beforehand. So try picking a day to grocery shop this week. Make a list of at least three dinner meals that you’ll cook (and don’t forget to add a lunch menu and snacks and maybe a delicious dessert). The point here is to plan ahead so that you don’t have the added stress on your mind of what you’re going to eat during the day or after work. Most times you’re exhausted at the end of the day and the last thing you want to try to figure out is dinner. So manage your time wisely and shop early, while also meal prepping. Proverbs 31:15 says, “She gets up before dawn to prepare breakfast for her household and plan the day’s work for her servant girls.”
Tip #3 – Delegate What You Can The verse above is the perfect segue into this point. Delegation! Sis, share the load. ;-) A great time management tip is to delegate responsibilities (if you can). So think about your work week for a moment. What could you re-assign, turn over, or entrust to someone else regarding one of your tasks? For instance, can someone else wash the dishes in the home? Can someone run an errand for you? Can someone else make calls or draft an email blast for you ? Can you get someone else to create a content calendar for you? What can you delegate this week? The Bible tells us in Ecclesiastes 4:9, “Two are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed.” Tip #4 – Set a Timer & Get Things Done I LOVE this one! I live by a timer. It just helps me to stay on task and manage my time very well. So, here is how you do it. Grab your phone or clock and set a work or task block. In other words, if you want to get a specific task done (like gardening, writing a blog post, interview questions for a podcast, creating a video, editing a book or project, cleaning your bedroom, etc.), set a time block for maybe an hour to two. Try to get as much as you can done within that timeframe. Once the timer goes off, hopefully you’ve completed that task. If you did complete it, that’s a WIN! Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us, “For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.” Tip #5 – Set Healthy Boundaries In all of your tasks and responsibilities, it’s so important to set healthy boundaries. Make time to plan a nap in your week. Manage your time wisely by having a “quitting time” in your day. Meaning, know when to stop working and rest for the remainder of the evening. Read a book or magazine. Watch a good movie (early rather than later). Make time to exercise. Don’t overschedule (this brings on added stress and double-booking if you’re not watchful). Take a walk or run. Know your limits. And make time for family and friends. This is so refreshing and healthy. Time management is all about managing our time as we press to get things done. We all want to make progress, but with ease and grace. And the way to do that is through prayer, proper planning, and working with others to reach our intended goals. Personally, I find that when I do the tips that I’ve suggested here, I have a much better flow in my week, more productivity, joy, and peace. I pray that for you as well this week and beyond, sis!
